We Are Eclectic

We are Eclectic is a concert series designed to bring cultural awareness and sensitivity to audiences through music. This initiative is needed now more than ever. We want to alleviate lack of knowledge by curating an inviting space where individuals can exchange knowledge about their race, customs, traditions, religion, gender, and more. There is an urgency to bring awareness to cultural sensitivity and what better way to do this but by way of the performing and visual arts?

Our first concert was held on July 24, 2021 from 5:30 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at Art by Zay Studio Gallery (14045 Abercorn ST. Suite 2316 Savannah, GA 31419) with performances by T'Nai Amani, Tiffany Bostick, Phil Beach, and Smooth-n-Groove (pictured from left-right).

In January of 2022, T'nai had the opportunity to present "We are Eclectic: Increasing Cultural Sensitivity and Awareness in the Music Classroom" at the Georgia Music Educators Association Conference in Athens, GA to explain to fellow music educators how to implement a curriculum that is diverse and inclusive and that shows empathy so that students feel a sense of belonging where they feel safe to learn and perform. In July of the same year, T'Nai will be traveling to Fort Collins, CO to present the same topic with a twist at the Little Kids Rock Summit to educators from all over the nation. By exploring this initiative, T'Nai realized how teaching content surrounding cultural awareness was just as important as allowing students to create. Composing, recording, and writing are therapeutic activities that provide students with freedom of expression. T'Nai states, " My students feel free and safe and often demonstrate an openness to share their talents."
